How to Future-Proof DEI: A Practitioner Workshop

Over the past 12 months, DEI strategies and programs have faced increased scrutiny, shifting priorities, and plenty of external ‘noise’ – and yet it’s never been more essential. This workshop is an opportunity to step back, reflect, and determine how best to reframe our work in DEI to be sustainable and impactful in the long term.

In this practical, peer-based session, we’ll explore how to redesign DEI strategies and programs to maintain momentum, adapt to change, and build lasting engagement across both private and public sector organisations.

This workshop will include space to learn from each other and utilise the collective expertise in our community.

Together we’ll:

  • Unpack what we can learn from cultures and diverse groups that have experienced significant DEI backlash

  • Identify approaches that future-proof DEI work and explore how to apply them to strategy, changing business priorities, and enduring teams

  • Work through real-world scenarios across gender equity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and reconciliationExpect candid conversation, collective insight, and a renewed sense of clarity about what matters most—now and next.

This workshop will be facilitated by DPA committee members Andrea Smith, Luke Nixon and Emma Elder. Expect candid conversation, collective insight, and a renewed sense of clarity about what matters most—now and next.

This session is for: DEI practitioners, diversity network leads, and HR leaders with diversity and inclusion accountabilities.

When: Thursday 31 July, 9:15am - 11:45am
We’ll break mid-workshop for a light morning tea.

Where: Mantra on Queen, 570 Queen Street, Brisbane (the Valley end of Queen Street where our How to Manage Polarising Topics workshop was held in 2024)
